Netbooks to grow by 66%

Netbook sales are set to grow by 66 per cent in 2009, storming ahead of general laptop sales which are expected to grow by three per cent.

The estimates, based on research by the NPD group, highlight the virility of the netbook sector compared the rest of the market.

Unsurprisingly, NPD attributes the increasing trend towards lower priced computers to the recession – and expects higher priced computers to do much better after the economy sorts itself out.

However the analyst does expect netbooks to continue to be a ‘force for change’ during this period.
