Latest figures from Gartner reveal impact netbooks are having on channel, with Acer toppling HP as number one EMEA vendor

Netbooks dominate Q3 PC shipments

HP has seen itself displaced as the number one vendor in EMEA as a direct result of its late entry into the netbook market, according to the latest figures from Gartner.

Reflecting iSuppli’s figures yesterday, Gartner said that shipments worldwide grew by 15 per cent – compared to iSuppli’s figure of 14.5 per cent – during the third quarter, compared to the same time last year.

However, despite retaining its position as number one worldwide, HP saw itself deposed from the top spot in Europe, with Acer gaining 20.6 per cent of the market compared to HP’s 18.7 per cent.

Gartner’s principle analyst for client computers Mika Kitagawa warned though that while it is clear that the market has boosted by sales of netbook PCs, it is currently unclear if they have expanded the market or cannibalised it.

She also warned that the companies benefiting most from sales of netbooks were those that had taken advantage of them early on such as Asus.
