Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says there is no pay gap between men and women working at the firm, following controversial comments he made about women’s pay.
In an interview with MSNBC, as reported by Gamespot, he said there is just a 0.5 per cent difference between men and women’s salaries at Microsoft globally.
He added that the difference is even lower in the US, where women earn 99.7 per cent of what males earn at Microsoft (provided they hold a similar role or title).
"So it’s different than what perhaps is sort of normally felt across all industries," Nadella said.
"The real issue is do we have enough people of different ethnicity and women in those levels? Do we have them in our corporate vice president ranks? Are we promoting them as vigorously as we are?"
The Microsoft CEO said he will "go to work" on these issues, and said he wants to make Microsoft a firm that delivers "equal pay for equal work" and "equal opportunity for equal work."
Nadella came under fire earlier this month after suggesting women should not ask for pay rises.
