As this year’s Mobile World Congress approaches its last day, we take a look at some of the various smartphones that have caught our attention so far.
Samsung Galaxy S5 (pictured)
The new handset features a fingerprint scanner, much like the one found on Apple’s iPhone 5S. While it can be used to unlock the device, it has another function that isn’t included on Apple’s flagship: It can be used to authorise PayPal transactions online.
BlackBerry Q20
The firm has decided to go back to basics with a new smartphone featuring a full qwerty keyboard and ‘classic’ physical buttons – Menu, Back, Send and End, as well as an integrated trackpad.
LG F70
The firm revealed that it is intent on further strengthening its footprint in 4G markets and expects the F70 to appeal to ‘millions of new LTE customers around the world’. LG also claims it has the largest battery capacity in its class.
Nokia X
Nokia’s first Android smartphone features a Lumia-inspired tile-based user interface and will have a starting price of just €89.
Sony Xperia Z2
The Xperia Z2 smartphone takes a leaf out of HTC’s book and features front-facing speakers. Sony also unveiled a mid-range smartphone called the Xperia M2.
Alcatel OneTouch
The Fire C, Fire E and Fire S smartphone models all feature Mozilla’s FireFox operating system. ZTE was also unveiled as another Mozilla partner, introducing its Open C and Open II devices.
HTC Desire 816 and 610
While the HTC One+ 2 isn’t expected until later in the year, HTC unveiled a couple of mid-range smartphones at MWC. The Desire 816 comes with a 1.6GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 5.5-inch screen and 13MP rear camera. The 610 has a slightly smaller 1.2HGz processor, 4.7-inch screen, and 8MP rear camera.
Huawei Ascend G6
The firm’s new 4G LTE smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch display and an 8MP rear camera. It also runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. As well as the G6, Huawei unveiled what it claims is the ‘world’s slimmest tablet’, the MediaPad X1, measuring just 7.18mm thick.
