HTML5 app devs encouraged to get involved in the new mobile platform

Mozilla offering free Keon smartphones to Firefox OS app devs

Mozilla is calling for HTML5 app developers to get in touch to receive a Geeksphone Keon smartphone for free.

In order to qualify for a device, developers need to submit a proposal to Mozilla outlining the app they wish to build or port to Firefox OS.

If the pitch impresses Mozilla, the dev will receive a free Keon, which has a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor, 512MB or RAM and a 3MP rear-facing camera.

“When Firefox OS phones become available to consumers in select locales this summer, you’ll have an opportunity that only comes around once—a first-mover advantage in Firefox Marketplace,” reads the Mozilla blog.

“End users in Latin America, Eastern Europe and other launch locations will be on the lookout for playful and practical apps to install: games, tools, and utilities as well as locally relevant news, sports, travel, entertainment, review apps, and social sharing experiences. And you can build and submit them now!”
