The total worldwide PC monitor market shipped more than 29 million units during Q1 2015, a decline on the previous year.

According to analyst IDC, the market saw a decline of 12 per cent, 1.5 per cent less than orginally forecast.

IDC predicts a year-on-year decline of 3.4 per cent in worldwide shipments to 28.8 million units in Q2 2015.

The analyst expects around 120 million PC monitor units will be shipped during 2015, and by 2019 worldwide shipments are to be less than 104 million units.

Phuong Hang, director for worldwide trackers at IDC, said: “Although there were a few bright spots – Japan experienced a gain of two per cent over the previous quarter after four consecutive quarters of decline – IDC expects the trend of declining PC monitor shipments to continue for the near term.

"Some improvement may come later in the forecast as new product campaigns spark a modest recovery in the consumer segment, aided by contributions from the SMB and SOHO segments."

According to the analyst, LED backlight technology dominated the market with 98.5 per cent market share, while 21.5-inch screen sizes held the largest market share for the last ten quarters.

In addition, Dell remained the number one vendor in Q1 2015 with a market share of 15.8 per cent.

Samsung maintained second place, despite seeing a year-on-year decline of 13.3 per cent.
