German auto maker BMW is set to unveil a Mini branded electric scooters at the 2010 Paris Motorshow.
The two seater Mini Scooter E houses an electric motor in the rear wheel and may be charged using any mains outset using the built-in charging cable. The dash houses a smartphone in an adaptor in the center console which will then become the central display and control element.
The smartphone even serves as the ignition key and the GPS. BMW even plan a Bluetooth-equipped helmet which will relay music and allow making hands free telephone calls. Building on the cult Mini branding, BMW's Mini application will even recognise when there are other Mini Scooter Es in the area.
The new Mini Scooter E concept arrives on the tenth aniversary of the BMW reboot of the Mini brand with introduction of the successful Mini hatchbacks.
"The Mini Scooter E Concept is true to our brand values of distinctive design, intelligent functionality and customisation and builds further on these characteristics by combining driving pleasure with sustainable technology into the first two-wheel concept of its kind for MINI," said BMW design boss Adrian van Hooydonk.
