The latest data released by AdDuplex reveals that both Surface devices continue to struggle sales-wise

Microsoft’s Surface fails to dominate, CEO Ballmer remains positive

Newly released data has revealed that Microsoft’s Surface tablet continues to struggle, as both versions suffer low market shares.

Stats released by AdDuplex revealed that the Surface RT’s market share fell from 7.6 per cent to 6.8 per cent during February alone.

Likewise, the newly released Surface Pro device has failed to generate much demand from consumers, with the ratio of RT device to Pro Surface’s outshipping the device 24:1.

However, Microsoft has cited supply issues and its failure to fulfil orders as the main reason behind the limited Surface Pro figures.

Despite the lacklustre numbers, Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer has remained confident in the device, whilst downplaying the need for high Surface sales.

Talking to MIT Technology Review, Ballmer said: "I’m super-glad we did Surface. I think it is important – and not just for Microsoft but for the entire Windows ecosystem – to see integrated hardware and software."

Ballmer also stated that the firm is "trying to lead a little bit with Surface Pro,” in order to encourage other manufacturers to follow suit with similar tech, rather then see the Surface see strong sales itself.

But whilst AdDuplex’s data reveals that rival PC makers are too suffering with their Windows 8 hybrid devices sales-wise, the greater question may be if manufacturers see any reason to follow suit.
