Microsoft has updated its cloud storage offering OneDrive including increased free storage and cheaper prices.

OneDrive - which lets customers store their documents, videos, photos and more on the cloud and access them with different devices - will from next month come with 15GB of storage for free, up from 7GB.

All versions of Office 365 will also soon come with 1TB of OneDrive storage. Prices include £5.99 per month for Office 365 Personal, £7.99 per month for Office 365 Home (up to five people) and £59.99 per four years for University.

Earlier this year Microsoft announced that OneDrive for Business customers will also get 1TB of cloud storage per person.

Additionally, Microsoft says it is dropping storage prices by over 70 per cent. Plans are now £1.99 per month for 100GB of storage.

Lastly, OneDrive users who refer friends will still receive up to 5GB (in 500 MB increments) for each friend who accepts an invitation. OneDrive will also offer 3GB for using the camera backup feature.

"The landscape is changing to the point that we believe it’s no longer enough to provide only cloud storage - that’s table stakes," said OneDrive.com group program manager Omar Shahine.

"We want to provide a complete experience that brings in the power of Office and lets you do more with everything you put in your OneDrive — whether it’s sharing your favorite photos with the people you care about in one simple click or working together in real time on an important project.

"All of these updates will take effect in the next month. For current subscribers, you are all set, you’ll automatically be moved to the lower prices."
