Swedish retailer lists device as greatly more expensive than current tablet PCs on the market

Microsoft Surface prices leaked

An online Swedish retailer has listed the Surface tablet on its online store, with a price tag that dwarfs its rivals such as the new iPad and Asus Transformer.

Webhallen.com has the device listed at around £650 for the 32GB Windows RT model – greatly surpassing the price of the majority of tablets currently available.

Prices for the Surface continue to rise up to the 128GB Windows Pro edition of the device, which is listed at a staggering £1,389.

It’s hard to imagine many people will be rushing to spend such an amount on the device, if the prices are accurate.

To make matters worse, it appears that those willing to pay the monstrous price won’t have the device’s additional keyboard attachment included – with the listing lacking any mention of the peripheral.

Without an official announcement from Microsoft, it’s impossible to say whether the prices listed are official or not – but it does offer an interesting view on how the Surface will match up against its closest competitors.

A number of sites have listed their own tentative product pages for the device in recent weeks, often with heavily inflated prices, so prospective buyers will be hoping the prices listed here are way off the mark.

UPDATE: Webhallen has since admitted that the prices listed on its online store for the Surface were false. You can read the full story here.
