Microsoft said that it plans to deliver a record number of patches next week to address Windows, Internet Explorer, Office and Silverlight.
The updates, which Microsoft called "bulletins", total 34 separate patches which equals the monthly record set last October. The size of the patch is due to Microsoft’s strategy of releasing certain types of fixes every other month.
10 of the updates are aimed at Windows with five of those rated the highest possible severity of "critical". All supported versions (from Windows XP SP3 and later) are affected.
The security flaws addressed in Silverlight, Office and Internet Explorer are designed to address vulnerabilities which allows malware to compromise the security of a computer via these applications. As operating systems become increasingly more secure, malware authors have looked to gain control via applications which already have the required computer access.
The forthcoming updates are on top of this week’s critical "out of band" update which addressed the shortcut vulnerability in Windows.
