Microsoft are set to patch 23 vulnerabilities in the upcoming 'Patch Tuesday' for October, addressing issues in Windows, Silverlight and Internet Explorer.

The software giant released details of the upcoming patch to will begin rolling out via Windows Update on Tuesday, containing eight bulletins in all.

The two critical updates related to Windows, Internet Explorer and .NET and Silverlight. Microsoft also released Service Pack 3 for the firm's Office 2007 software suite and the corporate collaboration software SharePoint 2007.

The fixes mostly address co-called remote code execution which can result in taking over a computer system. Since many web based services are affected the patches are well worth applying quickly in order to ensure PCs are that little bit more safe.
