USA: Consumer focused SaaS version of popular Office suite released in US this month

Microsoft launches Equipt

Microsoft has teamed up with US retailer Circuit City to launch its first foray into consumer SaaS with the release of Equipt.

While Circuit City has been chosen by Microsoft as the retail launch partner, the deal is not exclusive and other retailers are expected to begin selling the subscription deal within the next couple of months.

The package, which includes Microsoft Home and Student 2007 and One Care, is aimed at consumers rather than businesses. Benefits that Microsoft are exalting include automatic upgrades to the next version as soon as it is released, as well as access to Office Live Workspace.

It will retail for $69.99 in the US with an annual subscription.

PC Retail contacted Microsoft to find out if there are any plans for a launch in the UK, however, we were still awaiting a reply at the time of posting.
