Rob Tiffin has been appointed category manager for CCTV, security and home automation.

Tiffin joins after the departure of David Chorlton, who leaves the retailer to continue his career in China.

“Right now I’m keeping my options quite open and I have a few leads to follow up when I get out there in a variety of roles,” Chorlton told PCR.

Chorlton has worked at Maplin since 2013, first as a category buyer for PC components, gaming and monitors before moving on the security category earlier this year. He has previously held roles at Dixons Retail.

Tiffin’s previous roles include a product manager at Halfords and a buyer at Toys R Us.

It’s been a busy year for Maplin. In May, the firm unveiled its new TV ad campaign after its first stint in advertising a year earlier.

The firm also bolstered its website with a new ratings and reviews feature in June, and its CEO, John Cleland, stepped down from his role to take a non-executive director positions in the summer.

As well as all this, Maplin launched the UK’s first ever ‘drone academy’ to train its staff to become experts in playing the remote control copters.
