Scotland Yard announced that arrest of a 19-year-old man they believe is a member of hacking groups LulzSec and Anonymous.
The man was arrested in a raid in the Shetland Isles and is being transported to the capital as part of an operation the Metropolitan Police Service’s e-Crime unit described as a ‘pre-planned intelligence-led’.
"Today’s operation is linked to PCeU’s ongoing investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group," the Police announced.
Topiary is believed to have managed the Twitter account which has, since LulzSec came to prominence, issued a constant stream of gloating tweets. The same man is thought to author the various public releases of LulzSec and Anonymous, most recently a missive aimed at PayPal and the FBI.
"Law enforcement continues to push its ridiculous rules upon us," said a message to "PayPal, its customers, and our friends."
Topiary’s own Twitter account, where he describes himself as a "Simple prankster turned swank garden hedge," carried a single tweet dated last week.
"You cannot arrest an idea," he tweeted. Two days before his address, another Twitter foreshadowed the police raid, replying: "No but you can arrest Atopiary!"
