Logitech is to launch a standalone Wireless Touchpad for Windows later this month with multi-touch navigation and gesture-based controls the company said.

On the same day Microsoft unveiled details of the firm's touch-friendly Windows 8, Logitech announced that the Wireless Touchpad will bring the same touch experience to Windows 7.

Supporting up to four simultaneous multi-touch gestures at once, the 2.4GHz Wireless Touchpad uses the same Logitech 'unifying receiver' in the host PC's USB port as the firm's other wireless products.

"The Logitech Wireless Touchpad is perfect for people who want to surf the Web in a more fun and natural way," said Logitech control devices boss Rory Dooley.

"It lets Web surfers flick through websites and effortlessly scan long pages -- making browsing easier than ever."

Logitech said the Wireless Touchpad is good for up to four months of battery life and will launch priced around $50 in the US and Europe later this month.
