Logitech Harmony Link turns smartphones into remotes

The new Logitech Harmony Link enables iOS and Android smartphones to "become the smartest remote in the house," claimed Logitech.

Logitech’s Harmony range offers devices such as universal remote controls but the latest Harmony Link is a stand alone device designed to act as a bridge between infrared-equipped home cinema devices and smartphones.

A mobile phone app installed on the iPhone, iPad or Android based tablet or smartphones will communicate with the Harmony Link hardware via WiFi which can then control the devices in the lounge room just like a universal remote.

The Harmony Link can replace up to 8 remote controls and the iPad version of the application also offers TV listings.

The Harmony Link
is set to go on sale in October priced at US$99. No European pricing was announced.
