Company shows off modified smartphone at last week’s CES

LiFi transmits data ten times faster than WiFi

French company Oledcomm showcased new LiFi technology at CES 2014.

The tech switches lamps on and off within nanoseconds to transfer high-speed data.

“From your LED lighting device, you will be able to: send data, listen music, look at videos and ultimately to connect to Internet,” explains the firm.

At the show, the Oledcomm displayed a modified smartphone with its front-facing camera swapped out for a light sensor.

The speed of the on and off switching of the LED is converted in terms of data rates, this corresponds to 1 Gbits/s, which is ten times faster than WiFi.
