LG Electronics is aiming to sell nearly one million 3D televisions this year – representing a quarter of the global market.

LG's vice president and head of the LCD division, Havis Kwon, told reporters the firm wants to become more aggressive in increasing its market share in 3D, keeping ahead of rival Sony and launching premium models to combat price drops.

"Our goal is boosting market share in 3D TVs and you can clearly see that, as our target for 3D market share is 10 percentage points above our LCD TV sales target," Reuters quoted Kwon as saying.

LG expects the global 3D TV market to rise to around 3.8 million units this year and to over 13 million in 2011.

The vendor has showcased its new LX9500 3D TV, which will reportedly go on sale in South Korea next month ahead of a worldwide launch around May.
