Lenovo has launched the Y560d 3D laptop in the US with prices starting at $1,499

Based on the TriDef 3D technology, the Ideapad Y560d uses a combination of polarised glasses, screen coating on the built-in 15.6-inch display and a software solution to deliver the impression of 3D visuals to 2D content. This differs from Nvidia's 3D Vision system which uses active LCD shutters on a special pair of glasses.

The Ideapad Y560d is not capable of playing back 3D Blu-ray movies, however Lenovo are bundling the TriDef Media Player which claims to be able to "Transform a movie into a life-like 3D experience". TriDef Photo Transformer makes the same claim of the users digital photographs.

Other than the 3D display, the Y560d $1,499 entry model is equipped with a 1.6GHz Intel Core i7-720QM CPU, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, 4GB of DDR RAM, 500GB HD , DVD writer and Windows 7 Home Premium 64.

Lenovo's website lists the Y560d as expected to ship in 19 working days.
