Lenovo announces eight-inch Miix2 tablet

Miix successor “blends entertainment with productivity”

Lenovo has announced the Miix2 – an eight-inch successor to its Miix tablet.

The Windows 8.1 “multi-mode device” is powered by an Intel Bay Trail-T quad-core processor and has an 800x1280 IPS wide-angle HD display, which displays in an aspect ratio of 16:10 and includes 10-point multi-touch support.

Graphics capability is provided by seventh-generation integrated Intel HD Graphics, which provide Clear Video HD technology.

Up to 128GB of eMMC onboard storage is included, and can be expanded via the micro-SD slot.

On the outside of the device, a two-megapixel front-facing webcam and rear five-megapixel camera for video calling. 3G connectivity, over which video calls can be made, will be supported in certain countries.

The 8.35mm-thick Miix2 weighs 350g, and is said by Lenovo to “blend entertainment with productivity.” Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 comes preinstalled, and stylus and detachable cover options for the tablet are available.

“The Lenovo Miix2 eight-inch is a great example of how thoughtful design can deliver the best of both worlds,” said Bai Peng, vice president and general manager of the notebook business unit at Lenovo.

The Miix2 8-inch will be available later in October, beginning at approximately $299 (£186).
