Component shortages to cause eight per cent drop in shipments

Laptop shortages for first quarter

Morgan Stanley Taiwan has reported to Digitimes that notebook shipments in the first quarter of 2008 are expected to drop by eight per cent.

However, despite the drop, notebook shipments are likely to perform well and are an improvement over the previous years first quarter drop. The full year shipment increase is predicted to be at 35 per cent, and the analysts believe this is down to the easing of component shortages.

The analysts also predicts a troubled year for motherboards vendors, as notebooks continue to replace desktops, with a ten per cent drop for quarter one and a five per cent job on year.
