Up to 10TB of storage on five drives possible

LaCie launches Windows Home Server 5big

LaCie has launched the 5big Windows Home Server-powered back up server targeted at the small business market.

The 5big has five hot swappable drive bays for a maximum storage capacity of 10TB. Based on Intel’s D410 CPU, the 5big is LaCie’s first product to use Windows Home Server. Equipped with multiple USB and eSATA ports for external storage expansion, the server also adds extensive support for Apple services with Time Machine backup support for up to 25 Mac clients.

“For small businesses, backing up data is vital. Until now, storage solutions that efficiently protect and manage heterogeneous environments have been cumbersome, cost-prohibitive and difficult to configure” said LaCie business unit manager Erwan Girard . “LaCie has partnered with industry-leading companies to provide a full-featured professional backup server that will automatically configure and back up PCs and Mac computers for a fraction of the cost.”

Equipped with 5TB worth of drives, the 5big will cost around £895.
