Memory and storage specialist Kingston has announced the launch of the SSDNow V series of SSD drives designed to offer the most cost effective upgrade path for desktops and notebooks.
The Kingston SSDNow V100 is a standard 2.5-inch form factor NAND-flash SSD drive with a SATA interface supporting 1.5Gb and 3.0Gb/s transfer rates and comes in three capacities; 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. Transfer rates are unusually high for entry-level devices with Kingston quoting 250MB/s read and 145MB/s write performance.
“We are determined to stimulate the consumer upgrade market through Kingston's various upgrade bundle kits that provide cloning software and all of the accessories needed to advance one's desktop or notebook PC from a hard-disk drive to an SSD,” said Kingston SSD manager Ariel Perez.
“Our new SSDNow V100 drives do just that as they represent the best value for an affordable upgrade solution with a low price vs. performance ratio.”
The drives ship either as a standalone OEM-style package or as an upgrade bundle kit available in notebook and desktop flavours. The desktop version bundles the SSD, cloning software and 3.5-inch hard drive mounting hardware while the notebook bundle includes a 2.5-inch external enclosure which facilitates the cloning process as well as housing the old hard drive for extra storage.
The company released US street pricing of $120 for the bare 64GB SSD, $225 for the 128GB model and $490 for the 256GB unit. Desktop and notebook bundles are $10 more. No European pricing or launch availability was provided but the previous V425 models are widely available with the 64GB unit priced in the £80 range on the street.
