Crowdfunding website Kickstarter has now officially opened its doors up to projects from the UK.
The launch marks the first time Kickstarter projects can be bullt around bank accounts located outside of the US. Until now, a number of UK-based users had to set themselves up as a US company to get around the problem.
There is a selection of other crowd-sourcing sites already online in the UK, but with a number of Kickstarter projects receiving over $1 million each, it’s already become a well known website to the British public.
A number of UK projects have already been launched, including Pimoroni’s Picade – a desktop arcade cabinet for British mini PC the Raspberry Pi.
The Picade was appeared on the site three days ago, as soon as UK projects launched, and has already smashed its target of £32,768.
Although its target is reached, there are still a few limited edition pledges left. Head over to the Picade Kickstarter page to get involved.
Since its launch in 2009, there have been 70,000 projects pitched on Kickstarter – with a success rate of just over 40 per cent.
