John Lewis is considering entering ten new Asian markets, including Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur.

Andy Street, managing director at John Lewis, told the Financial Times that the department store was considering opening up concessions in a number of department stores in Asia.

The group already has four concessions in Shinsegae - a South Korean department store, but has stated that it is not looking to launch in China.

At the beginning of the year, John Lewis revealed that it was investing £32 million to finance the refurbishment of four of its major stores and another £25 million for smaller projects.

A couple of months later the department store announced that it had reached annual sales of £1 billion for the very first time. The figure was reached after £40 million was pumped into the website. It turned out to be 12 months ahead of the group’s own forecast.

With the success John Lewis has had so far this year, it’s no surprise the department store is looking to enter a number of other markets around the world.
