Rock star Jack White has told music fans get off the web and start living in the real world.
Formerly of The White Stripes and currently drumming in The Dead Weather, Jack White has posted a 500-word manifesto in the lead up to the world’s official Record Store Day, which he has recently been appointed an ambassador of.
In a bid to get fans out of their bedrooms and into real-life record stores and other shops, the singer questions how anyone can take on digital forces such as Netflix and TiVo.
“How can record shops (or any shop for that matter) compete with Netflix, TiVo, video games that take months to complete, cable, texting, the Internet, etc. etc? Getting out of your chair at home to experience something in the real world has started to become a rare occurrence, and to a lot of people, an unnecessary one,” reads one section.
HMV employees would probably agree with this rant, as the music retailer went into administration earlier this year. Yesterday. Elton John revealed plans to support the struggling firm by announcing some in-store gigs, but with the ever-increasing popularity in digital downloads and online shopping it seems people just simply prefer the easier option of staying indoors.
“The internet is two-dimensional, helpful and entertaining, but no replacement for face-to-face interaction with a human being,” warns White.
