IT professionals are expected to move away from proprietary to open source software in 2015, according to new research.
A survey by Ponemon Institute and Zimbra shows 67 per cent of EMEA IT professionals agree that commercial open source software offers better business continuity.
74 per cent in the US also agree open source is better for business continuity, compared to propriety software.
Dr. Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute, said: “With the majority of deployments being proprietary solutions and the sentiment largely negative, I would expect to see increased interest in new solutions that are based on commercial open source.”
Ponemon also predicts that in the next two years, members of the industry will make changes to their messaging solutions.
Business continuity, quality and cost savings are some of the top reasons why IT professionals prefer open source.
