Report from the Samaritans highlights careers as particularly stressful

IT and retail highlighted as stressful occupations

Over 40 per cent of those who work in the IT and retail sectors experience high levels of stress, with many saying find it difficult to deal with stress, according to a report out today from the Samaritans.

It found that occupation had a major influence on stress, with IT workers, retailers, caterers and engineers more susceptible than those in health, education, banking and finance.

It also found that bully is endemic in the UK workplace, with one in four people saying it is a weekly, or even daily, source of stress. It also found that 80 per cent of employees have been bullied at one point or another during their careers.

A third said that they were so stressed in work that they were seriously considering emigrating, while over half said work-related stress was beginning to affect their home lives.
