The iPad launched in the UK today, with some high street stores opening early to sell the device.

According to The Daily Telegraph, dozens queued up outside the flagship Regent Street Apple Store ahead of the launch this morning, and branches of Currys and PC World opened at 8am to sell the device.

Priced from £429 for a 16GB wi-fi only version to £699 for a 64GB wi-fi and 3G model, some customers reportedly received their pre-ordered iPads yesterday, a day ahead of the official launch.

UK media are clamouring to cater to the device, with The Times unveiling a £10-a-month application and Sky News offering a £35-a-month mobile TV app.

In the US, 74 per cent of stores had run out of the device by Monday.
