Apple is also expected to show off the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks updates

iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2: What to expect from Apple’s October 22nd event

After launching two new iPhones in September, there’s more to come from Apple on October 22nd, when the firm is expected to unveil a new iPad line.

iPad 5

Spec rumours for the iPad 5 include NFC, a thinner and lighter design, an aluminium rear shell, and film-based panels.

There are also suggestions that the iPad 5 could come with a charging cover, which could be used to charge smaller Apple gadgets as well as the iPad itself.

iPad Mini 2

The biggest rumour is that the iPad Mini 2 will have Retina display. Elsewhere, a quad core processor and more RAM are suspected.

In keeping with the iPhone 5C’s array of colour variants, it is rumoured that the iPad Mini 2 may also come in the same choice of green, blue, yellow, pink or white.

Back in August, photos emerged from FanaticFone allegedly showing the silver casing of the iPad Mini 2, showing an embedded black Apple logo rather than the usual printed mirrored one that features on current iPad models.

Accessories for the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 have already appeared at a Chinese technology event last week, with cases for the iPad 5 appearing to be thinner, due to a reduced bezel around the edge of the tablet. As for the iPad Mini 2, they appeared to be the same, suggesting any improvements are to be internal.

As well as the iPad, Apple is also expected to show off the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks updates.

The event takes place at 10am PCT – 6pm in the UK.
