Release date held up by design changes while Apple rumour mill whirs into full motion

iPad 2 production hits bottleneck

As Apple enthusiasts wait with baited breath for news on the iPhone 5 and the iPad 2, it appears the latter has hit a snag.

Although there has never been an official iPad 2 release date, theories had suggested the tablet would go to retail in April.

Yesterday Bloomberg cited a report from Taiwanese research firm Yuanta Securities, which describes how “issues are being encountered with the new production and it is taking time to resolve them.”

Analyst for Yuanta Securities, Alison Chen said the production bottlenecks were a result of design tweaks made to the iOS device earlier this month.

She added: “A number of Android 3.0 tablets are being launched in April and May, the delay in iPad 2 shipments may give the Android camp a brief window of opportunity.”

The result of the delays could see the iPad 2 launch as late as June.
