The market share for Internet Explorer has fallen below 60 per cent for the first time ever, according to statistics from NetApplications.

The figures released show that Microsoft’s browser software now holds 59.95 per cent – a “historic low” for the company. However, while this is a low figure, it still sits in a position of dominance over the market.

The closest rival, Firefox, now holds 24.59 per cent market share and is approaching its all-time high point of 24.72 per cent.

Meanwhile, Google Chrome continues to outpace Apple’s Safari, with the two browsers holding 6.73 per cent and 4.72 per cent respectively.
