Intel Core i7 990X is ‘best of the best Intel chip’

Legit Reviews awarded Intel’s ultra high-end Core i7 990X Extreme six-core processor an Editor’s Choice award, calling the CPU the ‘best of the best Intel chip’.

The tech specialists said that the six-core processor excelled at at tests that were "maining anything that was heavily threaded," adding that they believed the CPU would likely be the fastest ever chip on the LGA1366 X58 platform.

The 3.46GHz Core i7 990X Extreme Edition can run each core up to 3.73GHz with turbo enabled. Legit Reviews said such a high clock frequency with six cores and Hyper-Threading made the Intel flagship "one bad to the core processor!"

Priced at a hefty $999, the review did admit that the appeal of the processor was limited to "those that don’t care about price," but added that for those that could afford it, the performance would make them a "happy camper."

"When price isn’t an issue and you need a processor that will chew up anything you throw at it with a smile on its face, the Intel Core i7 990X Extreme Edition Processor is the perfect processor for you," they concluded.
