Tesco has said it has entered the tablet market to help those who are intimidated by technology.

Today the grocer unveiled its first ever tablet, the Hudl, along with research claiming many feel that the technology can be expensive and intimidating.

Tesco’s chief executive, Phillip Clarke commented: “We feel the time is right for Tesco to help widen tablet ownership and bring the fun, convenience and excitement of tablets to even more customers across the UK.”

The Hudl will cost £119, which is less than half the price of an iPad mini, but with a higher resolution screen. However, compared to other popular Android tablets such as the Asus Google Nexus 7, price wise – it’s not that that much cheaper.

In Clarke's recent article in The Telegraph, he stressed how important it is for a business to change and adapt, noting how the digital world is having a deep impact on emerging consumers.

Tesco has released an infographic to accompany its new research and tablet, which reveals that 26 per cent of children under three know how to use a tablet to some degree. The Hudl has been designed with family use in mind and gives users advice on how to put in place measures to protect children.
