Huawei’s strong links with the Chinese State cause concern

Huawei and TalkTalk behind porn filtering system praised by David Cameron

The pornography filtering system praised by Prime Minister David Cameron is actually controlled by TalkTalk and Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei.

The BBC reports that UK-based Huawei employees are dedicated to working on TalkTalk’s net filtering service blocks.

Huawei is probably best known in the tech world of its array of ‘record breaking’ devices, including the ‘world’s most powerful’ Ascend P2, the ‘world’s thinnest’ Ascend P6, and the ‘world’s fastest’ Ascend P2 smartphone.

It is alleged that the firm has links with the Chinese State, which is known for its extreme censorship laws.

Huawei was recently the subject of an Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) report, where the committee said: “Alleged links between Huawei and the Chinese State are concerning, as they generate suspicion as to whether Huawei’s intentions are strictly commercial or are more political.”

TalkTalk told The BBC that it was comfortable with its relations with Huawei.
