Deployment may just be delayed by Palm acquisition

HP Slate postponed, not cancelled

Despite rumours that the Slate has been cancelled, speculation is mounting that HP may be contemplating a release with a Palm-based operating system.

According to CNet, the vendor could now be aiming to release two versions of the device – one that runs of Windows 7 and another that utilises a version of Palm’s WebOS.

“I don’t think the Slate has been canceled. This is a delay, if anything,” Creative Strategies’ Ben Bajarin told CNet. “The question is, will they bring out different products at different price points.”

Bajarin speculates that HP may utilise different versions of the Slate to cater for different segments of the market, placing it in a much stronger position to compete with Apple’s iPad.
