HP has announced it is cutting 5,000 more jobs than previously expected – with some 34,000 positions facing the chop this year.
The increase means the vendor will reduce its global workforce by 11 per cent. HP previously planned to cut 29,000 jobs.
"Due to continued market and business pressures, as of October 31st, 2013, HP expects to eliminate an additional 15 per cent of those 29,000 positions, or a total of approximately 34,000 positions," read a statement.
New reports also suggest HP will launch low-cost ‘phablet’ consumer smartphones – six and seven-inch tablets that also take voice calls.
HP previously used Windows software in phones and bought Palm’s web OS, before turning to Android.
It’s believed that LG will use this web OS for a new smart TV.
