Cisco has announced various new digital solutions today, as well as a new Internet of Things (IoT) security portfolio to help solve key challenges in manufacturing, transportation, utilites, and oil and gas industries.

40 per cent of today’s leading companies are set to be displaced from their market position by digital disruption in the next five years, so says the Global Center for Digital Business Transformation (a joint initiative of IMD and Cisco).

Due to this, Cisco is aiming to help these industries remain competitive, increase more value and create better experience for customers and end users through its new solutions.

There are five new digital solutions from Cisco, which businesses can use to help digital disruption, including Connected Machines for Digital Manufacturing, which provides OEM digitisation and new business models, and the Smart Connected Pipeline for Digital Oil and Gas, which offers firms more control over their pipeline.

The third solution is Substation Security for Digital Utilities – a connected architecture that enables secure power grids for efficient service across the utilities industry, while the forth is Connected Mass Transit for Digital Transportation, which will enable the delivery of greater safety and mobility.

Lastly, Cisco has introduced the IoT System Security product portfolio, which provides secure connectivity, visibility and control.

Digital disruption can harm the tech market either though manufacturing processes and even transportation, and so far 75 per cent of companies at risk of displacement have not addressed this issue. Now Cisco is calling for businesses to assess their risk by prioritising their digital strategy.

Various customers are also starting to see the benefit of incorporating Cisco’s latest solutions into their business.

Sujeet Chand, senior VP and CTO at Rockwell Automation, said: “The Cisco IoT System Security solution will make an immediate impact for customers by accelerating secure IT-OT convergence with an end-to-end security solution, simplifying compliance and mitigating threat vectors.”

Shawn Rahn, VP of IoT for Cisco’s Gold Partner Presidio, added: “Cisco investment into the industrial platforms for security solutions helps customers ensure they can establish access gateways – meeting key security requirements wherever in their physical environments they are required – while also delivering an ‘operations up’ first alternative to traditional security appliances that prioritise system uptime and availability. This is a tremendous step forward in cyber-security for the industrial world."
