Hitachi launches fastest notebook hard disk

After developing what it claims to be the best performing and highest capacity notebook hard drive, Hitachi has announced it is now volume shipping the device, reported The Inquirer.

The Travelstar 200GB 7K200 is now included in a number of systems from system makers Dell and Alienware.

The drive has a 4.2ms average latency, 10ms average read time and 11ms average write time. Hitachi claims this is a 22 per cent performance improvement over its predecessor using PC Mark05 benchmarks. It is also shipping an encryption version of the device.

Hitachi is selling the hard disk to original equipment manufacturers already, and it will also start selling the unit in shops over the summer for around $250.
