GfK has called on High Street retailers to re-evaluate their approach to selling software, saying that many are missing out on a chance to boost revenues.

GfK analyst Tristan Irwin said that while there had been a gradual decrease in the number of retailers stocking software, demand had not decreased to the same extent, benefiting their online rivals.

"Demand for software is unlikely to drop considerably on Q3 last year, over which just fewer than one million software boxes were sold in the UK," commented Irwin.

"It is up to the retail sector to re-engage with online shoppers in the High Street, especially at a time where the price differential between online savings, and offline promotional prices is at its lowest point in the year."
