Rockstar has detailed a multiplayer version of its GTA franchise – Grand Theft Auto Online – in a trailer video today.

It was revealed GTA Online will be released October 1st.

This is a separate title from GTA 5 – the forthcoming, presumably single player only title, which will be released September 17th.

The game is described as an ‘incredibly detailed and responsive online world’ – and won’t be unfamiliar to fans of the series, with ‘freedom, ambient activity, and mission based gameplay’ making up the game mechanics.

Essentially, you’ll be able to explore the game world alone or with friends, compete against them or with a wider set of players, or team up to tackle missions cooperatively.

You can expect car chases and guns to feature prominently, in case you were in any doubt.

It will be given away with copies of GTA 5, or can be bought separately after the release date of October 1st.
