If you’re employing women in senior positions, shout about it

Government urges business to publish gender figures

The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, has urged businesses to publish the number of men and women they have in senior positions.

The thinking is that it will help highlight those firms who are going the extra mile in meeting the Government’s commitments to end gender imbalance in business.

Speaking at the London Stock Exchange, Cable also called for FTSE 350 companies to create solid plans to ensure “a healthy pipeline of female executives over the long term.”

“The great majority of business leaders I meet with now recognise the economic case for gender balance and are actively working with us to increase the number of women on their boards and executive committees,” said Mr. Cable.

“But we must also challenge the paternalistic culture and silent assumptions about women’s priorities that are ultimately keeping the glass ceiling in place.”
