The new top of the range Google Chromebook Pixel has been launched, alongside the announcement of a cloud storage platform.
Google’s Chromebook claims to have dealt with problems faced by the first version, such as its weak battery life, reports Tech Crunch.
It will come either with a Core i5, 2.2 GHz Broadwell-U, with 8GB RAM and a 32GB SSD for around £666, or a Core i7 LS version, 2.4 GHz Broadwell-U, 16GB RAM and 64GB SSD for about £870.
Intel’s HD Graphics 5500 GPU is used in both devices, which weigh in at 3.3 ibs and are Wi-Fi only.
The new Chromebook Pixel stays a lot cooler than its predecessor, its battery has allegedly more than doubled to 12 hours, and boasts a faster USB Type-C charging method.
Google has also said that the touch-enabled high-resolution screen shows more vibrant colours due to an updated sRGB colour gamut.
The Chromebook Pixel is available in the US now. PCR has reached out to Google for an international release date.
Along with the new Chromebook, the tech company also announced the beta version of Google Cloud Storage Nearline, which provides businesses with backup data retrieval.
Companies benefit from limitless storage capacity and simplified access to information.
Information management company Veritas is working with Google Cloud Platform, providing it with Veritas NetBackup 7.7, which natively supports Nearline as a backup target.
The platform is currently in beta, and is planned for general release this summer.
