Google Translate is reportedly getting an update, allowing users to translate languages into text.

The tech giant is taking on Skype’s language translator, which is currently available in English and Spanish.

The app will be able to auto-recognise a variety of popular languages, and then translate them into text in real time.

According to The New York Times, Google Translate will also let users take snapshots of signs or menus and translate them onscreen.

This news comes after Google donated €250,000 to the French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The donation comes from the company’s press innovation fund.
