Google has launched its official Maps app on iOS, which is powered by its extensive mapping software.

According to the Apple Insider, the app was released late last night and is very similar to the Maps software that has been traditionally included with iOS devices.

The Google Maps app was removed in the latest update to iOS after Apple decided it could do better with its own software. However, Apple’s software has faced a disastrous launch, with inaccurate maps that were condemned as a public hazard and brought grovelling apologies from the Apple board.

“The world around us is constantly changing and, thanks to feedback from you, we make tens of thousands of daily updates to keep Google Maps accurate and comprehensive,” commented a Google spokesman. “Here’s a helpful hint for the new app: if you see something off, simply shake your phone to send us feedback.”

In addition, Google has launched an SDK that will allow app developers to integrate Google Maps in to their own apps.
