Google is donating a $2 million grant to non-profit organisations that serve San Francisco’s homeless population.

The money will go towards the Hamilton Family Center, Larkin Street Youth Services and HandUp.

The three organisations work to provide homeless residents housing, support services and job training.

The donation will see the Hamilton Family Center receive $1 million, while Larkin Street will receive $500,000. HandUp will also receive a donation of $500,000.

Jacquelline Fuller, director of Google.org, said: “Hamilton Family Center, Larkin Street Youth Services and HandUp are all taking fresh approaches at helping to improve the living conditions for so many at-risk San Franciscans."

Jeff Kositsky, executive director at Hamilton Family Center, added: “The number of homeless students in San Francisco's public schools has been increasing steadily for the past five years.”
