The Chromecast plugs into the HDMI port of a television, enabling the user to stream media from a number of devices including smartphones, tablets and computers.
The dongle has been released immediately in the US with a price tag of just $35 (around £23). There is no word yet on an international launch.
While the Chromecast is cheaper than the Roku or Apple TV, it currently has the least amount of channels available out of the three devices. However, it is smaller than the other two and, unlike Apple TV, isn’t exclusive to one operating system.
Also, again unlike the other devices, Chromecast streams media via the cloud as apposed to direct to the dongle. Google claims this will allow higher-quality streaming.
