The group will be known as The Internet Association and will operate out of Washington.

The four internet giants will handle political and regulatory issues in the US and intend to ‘educate’ lawmakers about the web.

Michael Beckerman, former adviser to the chairman of the House of Representatives Energy And Commerce Committee, will be the president of The Internet Association, which will launch in September.

"We want to educate [lawmakers] about the impact of the internet in their congressional districts," said Beckerman.

It is reported that between April and June 2012, Google spent $3.9 million on lobbying, and Facebook spent $960,000 in the same period.

The full list of companies joining the group along with the issues they will focus on will be announced in September.
