Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn is hiring a record number of new employees.

According to the Economic Daily News, over 100,000 people in mainland China have been recruited to produce the newest iPhone from Apple.

The hiring spree comes just as production for the iPhone 6 is rumoured to ramp up in preparation for a September/October launch.

Foxconn (the trading name for Hon Hai Precision Industry) is the world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronic goods and will produce 70 per cent of the smartphones.

Pegatron is set to produce the remaining 30 per cent and will also expand its workforce in one mainland factory by 30 per cent.

Spec rumours for the iPhone 6 include a 10MP camera, 4.7-inch screen, NFC technology, 1600 x 900 resolution and sensors for atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity.

Early rumours indicated a September release for the handset, but more recent reports suggest the iPhone 6 will be released alongside Apple’s iWatch in October.
